Purple Lapel Pins and Stickers: Domestic Violence Awareness Month

In an effort to increase awareness against Domestic Violence and spread the word about preventive tips to fight domestic violence, the Shasta Women's Refuge (SWR) Center in Redding, California has been handing out purple lapel pins and stickers this month, as October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

The center received one hundred more calls to their crisis line this year than last year.

The SWR's was started in 1970 by Gretchen Peterson, when she offered her home as the first safe house in shast county. Since then, they have been continously helping women and families, so they can prevent and reduce the acts of violence against women in  the areas, as well as providing shelter to families and empowering women suffering from Domestic Violence. They are celebrating 35 years of service.
