Custom Lapel Pins are Gaining Popularity on Capitol Hill

Senator, members of Congress and White House staff have been seen wearing custom lapel pins more often than ever.

They are used to show support for a cause, like awareness ribbon pins for example, or to educate general public about a specific issue.

By wearing custom made pins they also show their patriotism, the American Flag pin is the most common one for this purpose.
 
On the other hand many government officials wear award pins, they are given to recognize a person for an achievement or sometimes as a reward for being working for a determined number of years, these are called years of service pins.
